Lighting the way to greater understanding

Individual Therapy

Dr. Clarke meets kids where they are at to help them gain a greater understanding of themselves. She teaches them skills and new coping techniques to help them conquer whatever is challenging them. Dr. Clarke uses empirically based treatments (which means the types of therapy have been researched and proven to be effective) to help children succeed.

Specialties

Mood Disorders (Anxiety, Depression, OCD, Emotional Dysregulation)

Dr. Clarke utilizes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients with anxiety and depression.  CBT is an evidenced based treatment that focuses on an individual’s thoughts, feelings and behavior patterns. Dr. Clarke teaches her clients skills during session which they practice at home. She has experience guiding clients through exposures for the treatment of Specific Phobias and utilizes Exposure/Response Prevention for the treatment of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. She also employs Dialectic Behavior Therapy to target emotion regulation, distress tolerance, mindfulness, and interpersonal effectiveness. These modalities enable Dr. Clarke to help children and teens feel better and enjoy their lives.

Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)

Has your child been diagnosed with ADHD? Or does your child have difficulty with time management, staying organized or following through with a task?

Dr. Clarke is passionate about helping children tap into their brain’s strengths. Did you know that children with ADHD and other related executive functioning disorders often hear three or more negative comments for every positive one? Dr. Clarke teaches kids and teens tangible strategies to manage executive functioning deficits with a careful eye on bolstering self-esteem and self advocacy skills. Dr. Clarke uses time management skills, self-monitoring, and visualization, drawing from the amazing creativity found in this population. She helps parents and teachers create layers of fading scaffolding to help these children/adolescents reach their greatest potential.

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

Dr. Clarke has experience providing cognitive behavioral therapy to kids and teens with autism for a variety of reasons, such as social skills deficits, poor executive functioning, difficulty with emotional control, and trauma. Kids with autism have a higher likelihood of having mood disorders. Many of these children and teens have a history of poor peer relations and emotion dysregulation which can lead to issues of poor self-esteem and depression/anxiety. Since individuals with an Autism Spectrum Disorder can process these experiences differently, it makes sense to have a provider who has experience with this interplay.

What are some other situations that might require individual therapy?

Dr. Clarke provides care for kids experiencing grief, family change (divorce, remarriage), trauma, peer difficulties, and other situations causing high levels of stress.
